Preparing your Child to Walk
| What to Wear. There is a saying…”there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”. Walking is possible in any weather. Rain. Choose a rain coat, umbrella and rubber boots. Cold/Snow. Choose warm coat, snow pants, hat, mitts (warmer than gloves), neck warmer (safer than a scarf as reduces chance of getting caught on something) and boots. Dress in layers and add and remove as required. Send a change of mitts and socks as staying dry is important. Sun. Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a water bottle. Backpack Information. Encourage your child to bring home only those items that are needed. Wear backpack with the straps adjusted so that it sits high up on the back and as close to the body as possible. If the backpack has a waist strap, use it. Choose a pack with wide padded straps. Consider one on wheels. |
